Bond Market Favors Kerry-Literally

Fri Aug 06, 2004 at 08:30:57 AM PDT

Normally I would put this in an Open Thread but, the one that's up now is kinda old so, please indulge me.

I work in a brokerage firm and I spoke with someone from the bond market this morning who related the following anecdote:

This morning, just after it opened, the traders on the bond floor spontaneously erupted into a "Kerry, Kerry, Kerry, Kerry" chant.  He said he'd never seen anything like it.

Has the "corner" finally been turned?  I'm feeling really good today!

  •  Must-see screen shot (none / 0)

Al Rodgers captured a screen shot of the moment on the job-less numbers thread below. I thought it was a joke. If this is real, I hope bloggers pick it up to get it some play. That's a surreal moment.

    Here's the link.

I hadn't tried that thread.  The screen shot is priceless.  I didn't have my Biz TV on this morning (Listening to Air America).  I had no idea they actually broadcast the moment.  This is stunning.  I'm gonna be walking around with a grin on my face all day!

a few weeks ago, one of kos's brilliant bloiggers posted a statistical analysis of recent state polls and electoral votes, then did a weighted analysis to come up with a projection, which favored Kerry by something like 95% to win in November.
Where was that?  I would love to see ongoing analyses like these, but somehow failed to bookmark it...

  •  Don't take the chant as pro-Kerry (none / 0)

Figure it as a black-humor response, acknowledging the demise of W's re-election prospects.

    •  either way (none / 0)

either the CW about who's going to win in Nov. is doing a 180, or Bush's support on Wall St. is crumbling. I suspect it's a little of both.

this has been a very bad day for Bush:

      • Job numbers atrocious
      • Swift boat liars discredited
      • Iraq going to shit
      • W's speech at UNITY an embarrassment
      • new ARG FL numbers have Kerry +7 and at 50%

too bad it's a Friday in August instead of a Monday in october... but i suspect we'll be seeing a lot more bad days just like this one.

  •  Just a theory (none / 0)

they, at last, understand that giving them extra money in the form of income, capitol gains and investment tax cuts is over because too much damage has already been done to the economy and they are ready to go back to an economy where they make their money by being smart while the country grows.

I'm only on my first finance class now so help me out.  Isn't the flood of riskless government bonds to fund the budget deficit killing the bond market?  Could that be a reason why these guys are cheering for Kerry?
